CalMac has been providing lifeline services and taking holidaymakers and day trippers to the west coast islands for over 160 years. It's one of Scotland's most iconic brands and is wrapped up in the magic of the islands. This in itself deserves celebration. We wanted to remind everyone of the role that Caledonian MacBrayne proudly plays in taking people to and from the islands.
A new song was commissioned especially for the film. The band Skippinish created 'Bring us home on the sea', an emotional track that perfectly captures the sentiment of CalMac's role both now and through the generations past. Archive and modern day footage of islanders, holiday makers and CalMac ferries was projected in giant scale on to castles, distilleries, waterfalls, lochs, hillsides, boats, piers and bridges across the length and breadth of the islands.
NOTE: Everything you see on the film was achieved on location and in camera.
A film that perfectly celebrates the history and future of CalMac, stepping away from the usual corporate video and instead being a thing of true beauty. We wanted to remind people of the feeling they get when they think of the islands and going by ferry.
A joint production by CalMac, Frame and Double Take Projections.
